On the 25th of January a group of year 7 Art students were very lucky to spend the day exploring just some of the fantastic things our nearest City has to offer. They traveled by train from Rugby to Coventry train station and were given a very interesting and informative lesson on rail safety by the Avanti community rail officer Mr David Savage. 

   They then walked from Coventry train station through the City to the Herbert Art Gallery and Museum where the students had a brilliant time mimicking statues and learning about the art works on display. They had a guided workshop ran by an expert sculpture and got to have a go at creating there own molded statue busts using clay. Before sitting down in the cafe to a slap up meal of sausage rolls and chips! 

   After lunch we explored the Gallery some more and went to the permanent history exhibition where the students got to see what life looked like from the Victorian era up until modern day. The Herbert also had an exhibition of photographs showing "100 years of youth". Most of the year 7 students were shocked to see film camera photographs of 70's 80's and 90's teenagers enjoying themselves in night clubs and festivals... they couldn't quite imagine it to be their parents! Although they did all seem to very much enjoy the photobooth. 

  On the way back to the train station we stopped of at the Cathedral ruins where Mr Glendon-Doyle led the students in thoughtful contemplation explaining the blitz and the reasons for Coventry being targeted. 

  We then gathered in the new Cathedral where some students chose to write prayers and light candles and others quietly reflected on the day while marveling the beauty of the architecture.
