  • RESTART A HEART

    Harris Academy are delighted to announce that our Prefects will be taking part in the ‘Restart a Heart’ campaign.

     

    Restart a Heart is a national campaign and is happening on Tuesday 18th October, where a world record attempt will be taking place to see how many people can be taught CPR in one day.

     

    Thousands of young people around the UK will be given the opportunity to learn how to help restart the heart of someone who has suffered a cardiac arrest with the support of The British Heart Foundation, St John Ambulance, The British Red cross and the West Midlands Ambulance Service.

     

    The aim of the campaign is to train more than 100,000 young people on how to perform CPR on that day.

  • SUCCESSFUL OPEN EVENING

    On Thursday 15th September, Harris Church of England Academy held a very successful Open Evening for parents and students looking for secondary school places for September 2017.

     

    With over 700 visitors in attendance, parental feedback says that:

     

    • 98% felt that the welcome to the school was good to outstanding;
    • 98% felt that the impression given by our students was very good or outstanding;
    • 100% felt that the impression given by our staff was good to outstanding;
    • 100% felt that the information given in our prospectus was good to outstanding.

  • HARRIS ACADEMY STUDENTS PERFORM AT HEADTEACHERS CONFERENCE

    Harris CofE Academy Year 8 students led the Anglican Academies and Secondary School Headteachers in worship for their annual conference.

     

    Showcasing an abridged West Side Story combined with extracts of ‘The Tempest’ the students explored the theme of forgiveness moving the conference with true and remarkable stories of forgiveness.

     

    Mrs. Harrison, Assistant Headteacher said, ‘Our students were inspirational; doing us proud! Headteachers attending the conference said they were so impressed by how the students contributed to the worship remarking too, how much passion and polish there was in the performances. We felt it was a privilege to lead the worship for a national and prestigious event.’

     

    Just some comments from our student participants were:

     

    ‘It was great! I enjoyed rehearsing for the event and I’d love to do it again.’ - Caleb

    ‘I thought our time spent rehearsing the piece went really well. The performance was the best we’d ever done it!’ - Brandon

    ‘It was really fun; especially making new friends.’ - Ollie

    ‘We thought the cast atmosphere was amazing. And we hit higher than our expectations.’ - Kiran & Harry

    ‘We improved a lot over rehearsals especially with our singing.’ - Jessica

  • YEAR 11 PARENTS EVENING 20TH OCTOBER

    Year 11 Parents’ Evening will be held on Thursday 20th October 2016 from 5.00pm to 8.00pm. 

    This evening will give you an opportunity to speak with subject teachers to discuss your child’s progress so far. It is also a chance to clarify how you can have a very positive impact on achievement by discussing revision and exam preparation tips with subject tutors.

    You will be able to book appointments online through the school INSIGHT portal.

    Links below explains the process. Appointments will last no more than five minutes.  If you need a longer time, please contact school to make a separate appointment, so that other parents are not kept waiting too long.  Booking opens on 29th September at 9am and closes on the 10th October at 4pm.

    When you arrive on 20th October, please ensure that you sign in at the reception desk next to Hope Hall and we would be very grateful if you take the time to complete the questionnaire feedback before leaving.

  • WASP INFESTATION AT HARRIS

    As part of the ongoing Partnership with Harris CofE Academy, Wasps RFC have been running their Coach Classes here over the summer. Children from the local community aged between 7 - 17 have been able to come to the classes and experience a coaching masterclass from the pro's. As well as coaching in Tag Rugby, the children have been able to experience the Wasps Interactive Zone and have specialist coaching from ex England and Wasps Star Paul Sackey.
     
    This is just one of a number of exciting developments taking place between Wasps and Harris, with much more to come throughout the year, including our new 'Tackling Numbers' programme, a cross-curricular PE and maths programme which will be available to our Partner Primaries and delivered through Harris CofE Academy School Sports Partnership and the Wasps Community Team.
