  • Race for fun day sponsored by IET & presented by Mr Willy Goldsmidt from Bloodhound

    Mon 26 Nov 2018

Tuesday 20th November was RACE for FUN day a project was sponsored by IET and presented by Mr Willy Goldsmidt from Bloodhound.

The presentation was on the BLOODHOUND SSC car which will be attempting to break the land speed record at over 1000mph.

All the year 7 students took part in racing a BLOODHOUND SSC balloon powered car. Each student was given a cardboard car kit which they cut out and attached axles and wheels. A balloon and straw is then attached to the car which the students inflated and then in several heats raced over a short distance. The cars were timed with the first (fastest) and last (slowest) in each race progressing to the grand final.  A (chocolate) monetary prize was then issued to the overall winners.

It was a fun day with the students, and staff, all learning many aspects about the Bloodhound car and fun techniques of balloon car racing.

Thanks to everyone who took part and supported the project.
