  • Sports Discovery Day at Coventry University and the University of Warwick

    Fri 14 Jun 2019

On Wednesday 12th June 58 ThinkHigher students from eight schools attended a Sport Discovery Day. With visits to both Coventry University and the University of Warwick; the ambitious day attempted to give year 9 and 10 pupils an insight into the important role that sport plays in Higher Education. The day started with an interactive session with academics from the Sports Science department. The next session looked at routes into studying sport at university along with possible career progressions. Next was an interactive group quiz designed by a ThinkHigher student (Harry from GE). The morning at Coventry ended with a tour of the Life Sciences building.

Next stop was the brand new Sport and Wellness Hub at Warwick.  After refuelling the students with baguettes, it was on to a choice of American football with Warwick Wolverines, Boxercise or Climbing and Bouldering. After an action packed day the students were ready for a relaxed coach journey back to school.

One Harris student was pleased to find out that sport can open up so many options for your future.

  • Bank of England deputy governor raises pupils' interest during school visit

    Wed 05 Jun 2019

Harris Students took note with great interest when a leading member of the Bank of England visited Harris Academy to speak about his life and career and the bank’s role in the UK economy.

Sir David has been deputy governor for markets and banking at the 325-year-old Bank of England since September 2017, and is a member of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC).

Pupils were interested to hear about the key responsibilities of the bank, including printing bank notes.

Sir David encouraged students to consider careers within the bank. They then asked questions, ranging from inquiries into the workings of monetary policy to how much he earned and what car he drove!

One student remarked the visit had encouraged them to “push themselves into new experiences or opportunities”.
