  • ATHLETICS FUN IN THE SUN!

    Mon 13 Jul 2015

On Friday 3rd July, Harris Church of England Academy School Sports Partnership welcomed 596 excited year 5 pupils to its summer Athletics Festival. The pupils all took part in a variety of running, jumping and throwing athletics events in glorious sunshine.  The focus for this event was participation and enjoyment for all with schools bringing their entire year group to have a go and improve on their personal best.  The event was run by School Sports Partnership staff with excellent support from 50 young leaders from both Avon Valley School and Bilton School.  These young leaders delivered warm up sessions, demonstrations, coaching points and scoring.  Our thanks to the participating schools and young leaders who made it so successful.

  • LES MISERABLES

    Thu 09 Jul 2015

At Harris C. of E. Academy we’re so proud of the start made by our 2014 Year 7 cohort of students. They are a bright and enthusiastic year group and so it was only a second’s decision to give every student the chance to shine on the stage. Since the Spring in the Year 7 students have developed their performance skills in their discrete Music and Drama lessons under the tutoring of the specialist drama and music team of Sammy Farmer, Neil Williams and Chris Browning.

Chris Browning, Head of Drama explained, ‘The Year 7 Showcase is a statement of intent; we believe at Harris that every student deserves the opportunity to shine on stage from the outset so they can develop personal confidence and creative skills as well as the memories and friendships which will last throughout their career here at Harris Academy.’

Headteacher Michael Stoppard said, ‘The Year 7 Showcase is a demanding project but also one which the students have had to give real thought to. The themes of Les Miserables are love, faith, justice, responsibility, and fairness which complement the values we all believe in here at Harris. Celebrating pupils’ achievement is central to the school’s inclusive community ethos and this is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate some wonderful achievements from both students and staff.’

  • DUKE OF EDINBURGH AWARD

    Wed 08 Jul 2015

This year for the first time ever we are pleased to be able to offer the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s Award as an extracurricular activity for year 10 students. The DofE is a nationally recognisable accreditation for young people. It gives all those who participate the chance to develop skills for work and life, fulfilling their potential and enabling them to have a brighter future. Taking part in the DofE builds confidence and self-esteem. It requires persistence, commitment and has a lasting impact on the attitudes and outlook of all young people who complete their Award.

We are pleased to be able to offer the Bronze DofE in conjunction with Warwickshire County Council, who will be delivering the programme for the school. The DofE meetings will take place in school, but there is a need to commit to some extra circular activities. In addition to the weekly training sessions there are 2 training days, a local Warwickshire 2 day 1 night practice and a 2 day 1 night qualifying expedition, the location/date will be advised in September.

For more information, please see the letter send to all parents of students entering year 10 in the next academic year.
