Politics, Power and Pop Culture Discovery Day at the University of Warwick
On Wednesday 3 April 22 students from ThinkHigher schools, including 4 from Harris Academy attended a Politics, Power and Pop Culture Discovery Day at the University of Warwick, led by ThinkHigher staff and colleagues from the Politics and International Studies department. Students took part in interactive sessions such as, ‘What is Politics and why is it important’ and ‘I can’t make a difference, can I?!’ which explored online campaigning and activism. Students identified issues they were passionate about and then formed groups with other like-minded students to work on their own campaigns. After lunch, staff from the Politics department delivered a thought-provoking and powerful session, taking students on a musical and political journey from the civil rights movement in the 1960’s to the current day. Students then created their own spoken word poems and delivered them to the rest of the group. The students work is to be proudly displayed in the Politics department.
