STEM DAY

On 5th June, 120 students were given a fascinating insight into what it is to be an engineer with Aston Martin. Aston Martin Project Engineer Bal Choda brought a £220,000 Aston Martin Vanquish V12 to amaze Harris Academy Staff and Students and used it to deliver an account of what it is to work for one of Britain’s most prestigious marques.

Mr Choda spoke about how much he enjoyed being an engineer and the importance of engineering to the economy and spoke passionately on many topics including:

  • The history of Aston Martin
  • The importance of Engineering to the economy and how STEM subjects help
  • The various jobs on offer at Aston Martin
  • The reason why women are important to Engineering
  • How to impress at job interviews

Students were actively engaged with the discussions and were rewarded with prizes!

The event concluded with Mr Choda giving each student a leather bookmark with an imprinted Aston Martin logo and then allowing the students and staff to admire the new Vanquish.

One student, Jack Wallace, who has secured an apprenticeship at Jaguar Landrover, was even allowed to sit in the car.

Both students and staff of Harris Academy stated that it was an interesting and unforgettable experience and the Academy is looking forward to hosting similar events in the future.
