  • TEXT SANTA CHRISTMAS JUMPER DAY

    Fri 27 Nov 2015

This Christmas season we will once again be supporting the Text Santa Christmas Jumper Appeal. On Friday 11th December we are asking staff and students to pay £1 to wear a Christmas Jumper for the day. This can either be shop bought or homemade. There are lots of ideas on the website: http://www.itv.com/textsanta  for creating original and festive jumper designs. There will be a prize for the best Christmas jumpers in KS3 and KS4 and winners will contribute towards their house vivo total.

Students taking part in this charity event must wear their school uniform underneath their jumpers (trousers/skirt, blouse/shirt, tie and school shoes) but they are not required to wear their blazers. Students who do not wish to wear a Christmas jumper are required to wear their full school uniform including their blazer.

This year our aim is to raise around £1,000 for Text Santa who support Macmillan Cancer Support, the Make a Wish Foundation and Save the Children. All of the money raised from the appeal will go towards helping those affected by crises, granting wishes to children fighting life-threatening conditions and funding nurses so those with cancer get the care they need.

All donations will be gratefully received. We continue to appreciate your support towards all of our charities events at Harris Church of England Academy.

  • HARRIS SINGS FINAL

    Tue 24 Nov 2015

Harris C of E Academy had a phenomenal response to their recent singing competition, 'Harris Sings'. Over sixty pupils auditioned leading to some tough decisions throughout the four knockout rounds. Neil Williams, Head of Music said ‘the standard has been very high and we found ourselves with eight very capable finalists, any one of whom have the potential to break into the Music Industry. The package of prizes we have put together reflects this and will give the winner a fantastic chance of achieving exactly that.’

Friends and families packed the Drama Studios for the exciting Grand Final. The special guests and judges were were Los Angeles band Symmetry, who recently supported McBusted on their UK tour. They performed live on stage before giving positive feedback to each contestant on their individual performances. Ex-student Becki Morgan's group,  'Becki and the Dove' performed whilst the judges deliberated.

Elite Hair Design, Beat Box Vocal Coaching and Flipside Recording Studio all donated prizes and 'Harris Sings' winner, Jake Prior and Runner-up, Lotty Isles are looking forward to their makeovers and recording studio sessions.

Head of Creative Arts, Chris Browning, said 'Harris Sings has promoted singing in a new way at the academy. Students and staff mentors have loved the opportunity to develop week on week and enjoy the thrill of performance and competition. In my 20 years at the academy the standard of singing has never been higher!'

  • HARRIS SPACE ACADEMY LAUNCHES

    Fri 13 Nov 2015

Ten of our year 11 students have designed and built a weather space balloon which despite harsh conditions with strong gusts of wind and at times heavy downpours of rain, was successfully launched from Harris Church of England Academy Sports Field this morning at 9.35am.

The balloon will hopefully reach heights in excess of 30-35 kilometres. The attached equipment will video its ascent and decent along the way.

A GPS tracker will enable the students to track the balloon in the academy’s minibus and hopefully recover it when it parachutes back down to Earth.

We are only the second school in the UK to attempt an experiment of this kind with the full support of the National Space Centre.
