  • Ski Trip Italy February 2023

    Mon 20 Feb 2023

Back home. Thanks to all rhe staff and students for a great trip.

All back safely for our final dinner at the hotel. We will be sad to leave. We will be departing this evening at 7pm local time (6pm GMT). We hope to be back at school for 8pm Saturday. We will update on the homepage.

Lots of fun on our last night with a trip out for pizza. We are heading back to the hotel for disco later.

Tuesday - Students enjoyed a full day skiing but we did have a few slips and falls. They were very tired last night but they all still had great fun at our quiz. We have a full day again skiing and will then wander out later for hot chocolate. Sorry I have not added more photos yet but will try and do so tonight.

All arrived safely and had a fun first evening. We all had our first morning on the slopes. We will post videos and photos every day on this news page, wifi permitting.

  • Library Careers Hub Re-Vamp!

    Thu 16 Feb 2023

Exciting new resources are arriving for our library Careers Hub. We have moved to a new corner of the library where one to one meetings will be more private and resources are being refreshed. The books will enable students to research and equip themselves to make the best decisions for their future.

We are also looking forward to the arrival of Careers games to encourage students to investigate and talk about a wide variety of job roles.

  • National Apprenticeship Week

    Tue 07 Feb 2023

National Apprenticeship Week runs from Monday 6 February to Sunday 12 February. It aims to raise awareness of the many benefits apprenticeships can offer. It's a fantastic chance to learn about apprenticeships and explore your options.

At Harris this week we have a visit from the Big WCG Apprenticeship Bus, a Careers Fair and drop-in sessions for students with the Careers Adviser. Teachers will also highlight apprenticeships linked to their subjects in lessons.

More information about Careers at Harris can be found in our Next Steps Newsletter.

  • Y7 Art Gallery Trip

Wed 01 Feb 2023 Mrs Finnemore

On the 25th of January a group of year 7 Art students were very lucky to spend the day exploring just some of the fantastic things our nearest City has to offer. They traveled by train from Rugby to Coventry train station and were given a very interesting and informative lesson on rail safety by the Avanti community rail officer Mr David Savage.

They then walked from Coventry train station through the City to the Herbert Art Gallery and Museum where the students had a brilliant time mimicking statues and learning about the art works on display. They had a guided workshop ran by an expert sculpture and got to have a go at creating there own molded statue busts using clay. Before sitting down in the cafe to a slap up meal of sausage rolls and chips!

After lunch we explored the Gallery some more and went to the permanent history exhibition where the students got to see what life looked like from the Victorian era up until modern day. The Herbert also had an exhibition of photographs showing "100 years of youth". Most of the year 7 students were shocked to see film camera photographs of 70's 80's and 90's teenagers enjoying themselves in night clubs and festivals... they couldn't quite imagine it to be their parents! Although they did all seem to very much enjoy the photobooth.

On the way back to the train station we stopped of at the Cathedral ruins where Mr Glendon-Doyle led the students in thoughtful contemplation explaining the blitz and the reasons for Coventry being targeted.

We then gathered in the new Cathedral where some students chose to write prayers and light candles and others quietly reflected on the day while marveling the beauty of the architecture.
