Student Voice

You Said, We Did: Listening to the Student Voice

At our school, your voice matters. The Student Council meets regularly to discuss your feedback, ideas, and concerns. Below are the actions we have taken recently as a direct result of your suggestions.

Uniform & Appearance

  • You Said: Why can't we have red hair?
  • We Did: We listened and have officially changed the policy on acceptable hair colors.
  • You Said: Why can't we wear shorts?
  • We Did: We updated the uniform policy to allow smart shorts during the summer and standard PE shorts.
  • You Said: We want to be allowed to wear any color nail varnish.
  • We Did: The policy has been updated to permit student choice on nail varnish colors.
  • You Said: We want to review the uniform to allow wearing PE kits full-time.
  • We Did: We ran a school-wide consultation. The final vote was 51% to 49% to keep the current policy, so it remains unchanged for now, but we will revisit this in the future.

School Environment & Facilities

  • You Said: Can we have Science stools with backrests?
  • We Did: We have ordered backrest stools for one classroom to run a trial.
  • You Said: We need more bike storage.
  • We Did: New bike racks have been installed, and two additional racks have been ordered.
  • You Said: Can we set up student litter picking duties?
  • We Did: We have successfully introduced student-led litter picking teams.

School Life & Resources

  • You Said: We need more footballs to use during lunch breaks.
  • We Did: Additional footballs have been purchased and are available for lunchtime use.
  • You Said: We would like to run a Culture Day to celebrate our diverse community.
  • We Did: This has been officially approved and scheduled into the school calendar.

Key Stage 4 / Year 11 Specifics

  • You Said: Year 11 students need printed copies of their timetables.
  • We Did: Printed timetables were generated and distributed immediately.
  • You Said: Year 11 requested a date change due to a clash with the Sixth Form Open Evening.
  • We Did: We adjusted the school calendar and moved the date to avoid the clash.
